1. Take a few minutes to look at the print above. What do you see? What looks interesting or weird? Can you see any patterns or objects that repeat? Using your imagination, what do you see happening in the photo? What type of story can you create? What is the artist trying to say in giving us this print?
2. Many things and objects all around us have repeating patterns in them. So many natural representations of repeating patterns are found in nature. Look at the leaves we cut out in preparation for fall and Halloween. These leaves show us that both sides are identical. That means they are equal. Also, we see these equal patterns in many buildings, cars and other man made creations. Look at the image below for an example of hand drawn symmetry.

Food Day
1. Over the past few weeks we have been building up a lot of energy for the celebration of Food Day. We have studied a lot about smart food choices, what ingredients are included in our favorite dishes, and how to use moderation in selecting our daily foods. We have discussed that eating our favorite foods is all right, as long as we choose them in moderation. When we use good limits in our food choices, we can have a not so healthy lunch, as long as we choose a more healthy breakfast or dinner. Ideally, we can make healthy choices at every meal, and hopefully with every snack.
2. Now, let's look some other information on this website about health, food choices and even recipe options. First, we will look at the six important elements of nutrition. Click here so that we can read as a class about how to get the proper amounts of fats, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals.
3. In our groups, we have spoken about the idea of making healthy substitutions in our food choices. Have you ever noticed that you make a healthy food choice every morning with the milk provided to you by the school? Well, the milk that we drink at school is Skim milk, or 1% milk. This helps us reduce the amount of unhealthy fats and limit the number of calories that we consume. Follow this link for a list of each ways to make substitutions in many of our daily menu choices. 4. For those of you who are working well and staying on track, here is a website to help you see how much of each food group you should eat each day, and suggestion on where to get those good nutrients.

Food and Numbers

1. Let's dive into the relationship between multiplication and division. In the same way that addition and subtraction work hand in hand, multiplication and division share a tight bond. Division Games Here's a really cool Division Bingo game. Follow this link... Here's a really challenging activity to see if you can arrange the cards in the proper order. Click Here to check it out.
2. Back to what matters… Remember that all the things around represent different states of matter. While most things we touch during the day are solids, let's not forget the importance of the air we breath-gas, and the water we drink-liquid. From the video we watched together as a class, take the following quiz that is accessable on the same website that you will find here.
3. Food Day is quickly approaching, so we need to continue exploring healthy food choices. This website will help you see that there are many options for choosing the right foods.

Getting Around

Our class took a moment to review the rules of finding the perimeter of a space. A friend of our classroom made these snazzy name plates for us to color after drawing our own borders and measuring the perimeter.
