1. As we saw in this weeks spelling words, there are many nouns in the English language that do not follow a typical pattern when it comes to the plural.

We need to study these words and keep them in our memories for future use.  Knowing how to spell words properly will help improve your paragraphs and your ability to communicate.

Words Ending With -tion, -cian and -sion


2. Now we can look at other types of words that do follow a regular pattern.  We can see the similarities in words that end with -tion, -cian, and -sion. 


We use these words all the time, but have you ever noticed that there is a pattern being followed?


Pattern: The /shun/ sound at the end of words is spelled several different ways: -tion as in motion, -sion as in profession, and -cian as in magician. 


Words that end in -tion and -sion often name things. They show an act of or state of


addition      confusion     connection     caution           celebration procession  attraction     operation        adaptation      subtraction tension        vacation      expression      consideration  composition      corporation


Words that end in -cian name people.
