Proofreading and Roller Coasters…two exciting thrills in one day!

1. Yesterday our class spent some time typing various paragraphs about our favorite inventions.  We had a little fun with the activity by imagining how people survived before these inventions were created.  It was a relief to write a second paragraph affirming how much we love these inventions and rely on them for a better, sometimes easier, life.

Today we are going to look over the paragraphs that were written by our peers and then offer them some helpful suggestions and improving the grammar, spelling and punctuation.  Refer to the proofreading marks poster on the front wall, or look at this helpful picture below.  Be clear and courteous when making the corrections. Remember that our goal is to help our neighbor. In the same way that you are reading a classmates paper, they too are reading your work and making suggestions.  We must assist one another int he process of becoming better writers.

Here are a few more websites that give us some assistance with our proofreading skills.

2. Do you ride roller coasters? Are you ready at any moment to take a thrill ride? Have a look at the following photos and see which roller coaster your might enjoy riding. Which one would you rather avoid? Do you have your own story about an exciting roller coaster ride?   Use the photos below or your own experience to write a paragraph about the excitement of roller coaster rides or the reasons you don't think you'd ever want to step near one of these giant metal beasts.
